Our Story
Storytime was created back in 2014 by two friends with over 20 years of experience in publishing, Lulu Skantze and Leslie Coathup. The idea was to give parents and teachers a high-quality magazine that helped to improve children’s literacy - with no adverts and no plastic toys, just great stories. We believe stories are important to create great memories and build resilience for children, as well as making them fall in love with reading.
We are now one of the most popular resources for schools and families, with a wide readership across more than 60 countries. Storytime offers a bite size story format, which makes it a perfect resource for reluctant readers who might not pick up a book as easily, and for children who are learning English as an additional language. The avid book readers love us too for the high quality of illustrations and storytelling, so we make sure there’s something for everyone in our monthly editions!
With the brand-new Storytime Hub we are proud to make our extensive catalogue of over 800 stories and 100 home learning packs accessible digitally for teachers and parents to use all over the world for the first time. During a challenging 2020, we knew it was more important than ever to be able to access content everywhere at any time.
Storytime operates as a social enterprise – so it’s accessible by families and schools to increase children’s literacy and change lives for the better. Children who read to have improved vocabulary, writing, spelling & reading skills, ultimately doing better in school and in life.
Our yearly survey shows that after receiving Storytime for a year, the proportion of children reading for more than the recommended 20 minutes a day doubled! Even better, the proportion of children who enjoyed reading increased as well!
